Craft & Finishing

Highlights

  • Composition: 100% yak down, a highland specialty animal fiber, with no other fibers blended in.
  • Specification: 16/2 medium-count woolen, with a lofty yarn body, full downy surface and a thick hand feel.
  • Warmth: yak down fiber has a high hollow rate and large air content, providing better warmth than wool at the same thickness.
  • Hand feel: the woolen process gives a full downy surface, with a smooth, soft and waxy touch that does not prickle or scratch against the skin.
  • Color: the natural brown-gray base tone is pure; after eco-friendly dyeing, the color is steady and consistent from batch to batch.
  • Application: autumn/winter sweaters, sweater coats, scarves and shawls, woolen fabrics and home textiles

Recommended Flat-bed Gauge

  • Recommended: 12 gauge (12G) — best match with 16/2 medium-count yarn, giving a thick, flat fabric surface and a full downy surface.
  • Lightweight/fine gauge: 14 gauge (14G) — tighter density, suitable for regular-thickness sweaters and cardigans.
  • Thick style/loose fit: 9 gauge (9G) — the fabric is lofty and warm; two-ply feeding can be used for thick coats.
  • Note: yak down fiber is shorter and slightly lower in strength than wool; knitting tension should be on the low side and machine speed slow to avoid yarn breakage; woolen yarn is lofty, and excessive density will make the hand feel hard. It is recommended to knit a swatch first to confirm density and shrinkage.

Washing & Finishing Steps

  1. 1Sorting and lot matching: sort by style number, color number and dye lot difference, wash the same batch and same dye lot together to avoid color bleeding and color difference.
  2. 2Rinsing to remove sizing and soil: warm water below 30℃ + neutral detergent, gently remove loose fibers and oil stains; yak down must avoid alkali and high temperature, never use alkaline or chlorine-containing auxiliaries.
  3. 3Milling/raising finish: woolen yarn may be lightly milled or raised as needed to give a full downy surface and thick hand feel; then add a hydrophilic softener for a softening finish. Yak down felts easily, so milling time and temperature must be strictly controlled.
  4. 4Dewatering and setting: low-speed dewatering, wringing strictly prohibited, pre-shape the garment while damp to prevent deformation.
  5. 5Drying/tumble drying: low-temperature tumble drying or lay flat to dry in the shade to 80% dry; high temperature is strictly prohibited to avoid fiber hardening and damage to the downy surface.
  6. 6Panel pressing: steam-press each garment panel once before sewing to remove curling and wrinkles; steam pressure should be medium-low.
  7. 7Garment pressing: after sewing is completed, steam-press the whole garment once on a mannequin for setting; avoid prolonged direct pressing (which will flatten the downy surface).
  8. 8Re-pressing and finishing: for easily wrinkled areas such as the neckline, placket, hem and cuffs, press once more if possible to ensure flatness.
  9. 9Quality inspection and packaging: inspect dimensions, color difference, pilling, stains and pressing results; after passing inspection, bag the garment, and anti-moth treatment is recommended.

Care Instructions

  • Washing: warm water below 30℃, select the "wool/delicate" cycle; use a neutral detergent, avoid alkali, avoid bleach, avoid high temperature.
  • Drying: after washing, gently press out water (never wring), lay flat to dry in the shade, avoid hanging and stretching and avoid direct sunlight.
  • Ironing: if ironing is needed, use low-temperature steam with a pressing cloth and hover ironing; avoid direct high-temperature pressing, which can flatten the downy surface.
  • Storage: keep dry before storing, moth repellent strips may be added; avoid long-term heavy pressure, folding for storage is best.
