Craft & Finishing

Highlights

  • Composition: 100% 80s Australian mercerized wool (combed top mercerized), excellent fiber fineness, uniform length, pure single composition, better consistency of hand feel and luster.
  • Process: chlorine-resin mercerization removes wool scales, fiber surface is smooth, giving the yarn a satin-like luster and smooth hand feel, anti-felting, anti-pilling.
  • Specifications: 36NM/3 three-ply high-count, extremely uniform yarn evenness, tight and full yarn body, excellent strength and abrasion resistance, knitted fabric is fine and smooth, with clear and crisp stitch definition.
  • Hand feel: 80s high-count mercerized is skin-friendly and non-scratchy, no prickling sensation against the skin; fibers are fine and smooth, hand feel is soft and waxy like silk.
  • Performance: after scale removal, felting and pilling tendency are significantly reduced, dimensional stability,

Recommended Flat-bed Gauge

  • Recommended: 12 gauge (12G) —— matches 36NM/3 three-ply, fabric surface is smooth and dense, clear stitch definition, for high-end lightweight sweaters.
  • Fine jacquard/fine gauge: 14 gauge (14G) —— increase density when plying or thickening, for fine jacquard and extremely fine lightweight styles.
  • Thick styles/loose fit: 9 gauge (9G) or 7 gauge (7G) —— ply to thicken, fabric is full and crisp, for thick sweaters and cardigans.
  • Tip: mercerized wool has a smooth surface and low friction coefficient, winding and yarn guide components must be kept clean and smooth to prevent yarn slippage and abrasion; tension should be moderate to slightly low, avoid over-tension damaging the yarn. Knit a swatch before machine knitting to confirm density, shrinkage and hand feel.

Washing & Finishing Steps

  1. 1Sorting and lot matching: sort by style number, color number and dye lot, wash same batch and same dye lot together, avoid color bleeding and color difference caused by mercerized wool's dye absorption variation.
  2. 2Rinsing to remove sizing and soil: warm water around 30℃ + neutral (weakly acidic) detergent, gently remove loose fibers, oil stains and weaving sizing; never use strong alkali or chlorine bleach.
  3. 3Anti-shrink/softening finish: mercerized wool can skip milling and go directly to softening finish; add cationic softener or mercerizing after-treatment agent to enhance silky smoothness and luster, and improve anti-felting stability.
  4. 4Dewatering and setting: low-speed dewatering, strictly no wringing or vigorous friction, pre-set the shape while damp, prevent mercerized wool from producing glazing or deformation due to friction.
  5. 5Drying/shade drying: low-temperature drying or lay flat to dry in the shade to 80% dry; avoid high temperature and direct sunlight, prevent wool from yellowing, strength loss and luster dulling.
  6. 6Panel pressing: steam press each garment panel once before sewing, medium temperature, with pressing cloth, eliminate wrinkles and stabilize dimensions.
  7. 7Garment pressing: after sewing, steam press the whole garment once on a dress form; control steam and pressing time, prevent prolonged pressing from producing glazing and press marks.
  8. 8Re-pressing and finishing: press easily wrinkled areas such as neckline, placket, hem and cuffs once more, ensure flat and crisp, clean lines.
  9. 9Quality inspection and packaging: inspect dimensions, color difference, pilling, snagging, stains and pressing effect, bag after passing, store with moisture and insect protection.

Care Instructions

  • Washing: warm water below 30℃, select "wool/delicate" program or hand wash; use neutral wool-specific detergent, no bleaching or strong alkali.
  • Drying: after washing gently press out water (never wring, never spin dry), lay flat to dry in the shade, avoid hanging and stretching out of shape.
  • Ironing: medium-low temperature, steam iron with a pressing cloth, avoid direct pressing; mercerized wool should be ironed sparingly and lightly to maintain luster.
