Craft & Finishing

Highlights

  • Composition: 100% mercerized wool (worsted top treated by mercerizing), pure single composition, better consistency in hand feel and luster.
  • Process: chlorine-resin mercerizing removes wool scales, fiber surface is smooth, giving the yarn a silk-like soft luster and smooth hand feel.
  • Specification: 30NM/2 two-ply medium-high count, even yarn, full and round yarn body, good strength, flat and crisp knitted panels, good resilience.
  • Hand feel: after mercerizing, skin-friendly and non-scratchy, no prickling when worn next to skin; moisture-absorbing and breathable, warm in winter and cool in summer, suitable for all seasons.
  • Performance: after scale removal, felting and pilling tendency significantly reduced, dimensional stability, not easy to shrink, machine washable and more worry-free.

Recommended Flat-bed Gauge

  • Main recommendation: 12 gauge (12G) —— best match with 30NM/2 two-ply, flat and dense fabric surface, moderate thickness, for regular autumn/winter sweaters.
  • Fine/thick: 7 gauge (7G) or 9 gauge (9G) —— two-ply knitted together, thick and full fabric, crisp silhouette, suitable for coats and chunky knits.
  • Light/thin needle: 14 gauge (14G) —— single ply or reduced yarn feed, for fine thin sweaters, base layers and accessories.
  • Tip: mercerized wool has a smooth surface and low friction coefficient, winding and yarn guide parts need to be kept clean and smooth to prevent yarn slipping and abrasion; tension should be moderate to low, avoid over-stretching and damaging the yarn. Knit a small sample before machine knitting to confirm density, shrinkage and hand feel.

Washing & Finishing Steps

  1. 1Sorting and lot matching: sort by style number, color number and dye lot, wash same batch and same dye lot together, avoid color bleeding and color difference caused by mercerized wool's dye absorption differences.
  2. 2Rinsing to remove sizing and dirt: warm water around 30℃ + neutral (weakly acidic) detergent, gently remove loose fibers, oil stains and weaving sizing; never use strong alkali or chlorine bleach.
  3. 3Anti-shrink/softening finish: mercerized wool can skip milling and go directly to softening finish; add cationic softener or mercerizing after-treatment agent to enhance silk-like smoothness and luster, and improve anti-felting stability.
  4. 4Dewatering and setting: low-speed dewatering, strictly no wringing and violent friction, pre-set the shape while wet, prevent mercerized wool from producing glazing or deformation due to friction.
  5. 5Drying/tumble drying: low-temperature drying or lay flat in the shade to 80% dry; avoid high-temperature sun exposure, prevent wool from yellowing, strength loss and luster dulling.
  6. 6Panel ironing: steam iron each garment panel once before sewing, medium temperature, with a cloth, eliminate wrinkles and stabilize dimensions.
  7. 7Garment ironing: after sewing, steam iron the whole garment once on a mannequin to set the shape; control steam and pressing time, prevent glazing and press marks from long pressing.
  8. 8Re-ironing and finishing: iron easily wrinkled parts such as neckline, placket, hem and cuffs once more, ensure flat and crisp, clean lines.
  9. 9Quality inspection and packaging: inspect dimensions, color difference, pilling, snagging, stains and ironing effect, bag after passing, store with moisture and insect protection.

Care Instructions

  • Washing: warm water below 30℃, choose "wool/delicate" program or hand wash; use neutral wool-specific detergent, no bleaching and strong alkali.
  • Drying: after washing gently press out water (never wring, never spin dry), lay flat in the shade to dry, avoid hanging and stretching deformation.
  • Ironing: medium-low temperature, steam iron with a cloth, avoid direct pressing; mercerized wool should be ironed less and lightly to maintain luster.
  • Storage: fold and lay flat, keep dry and ventilated, add insect repellent; avoid long-term hanging and heavy pressure.
