Craft & Finishing

Highlights

  • Composition: 50% Wool + 50% Linen, an even blend; wool provides warmth and resilience, linen provides crispness and breathability; the two complement each other, warm in winter and cool in summer.
  • Process: Wool and linen slivers are blended and spun, preserving the natural color differences of the two fibers to form a unique heather (mixed-color) granular texture.
  • Specifications: 50NM/2 high-count two-ply, the yarn body is fine and even with good strength, the knitted surface is delicate and crisp, suitable for medium-thin knitwear.
  • Hand feel: Wool provides softness and loft, linen provides crispness and body; after blending, the hand feel is warm and well-shaped, not limp; with a relatively high linen content, it feels slightly crisp when first worn, and becomes softer with each wash.
  • Performance: Wool resilience + linen moisture absorption and quick drying, breathable and moisture-wicking, not easily stuffy;

Recommended Flat-bed Gauge

  • Main recommendation: 14 gauge (14G) — matches well with 50NM/2 high count, the fabric surface is flat and dense, moderate in thickness, for medium-thin sweaters.
  • Light/thin gauge: 16 gauge (16G) — reduce yarn feed, for fine thin sweaters, base layers and accessories.
  • Thick/loose: 9 gauge (9G) or 7 gauge (7G) — ply the yarn to increase thickness, the fabric is full and crisp, for thick sweaters and cardigans (12G must be used with two plies).
  • Note: Wool-linen yarn contains linen, has more hairiness and a relatively high friction coefficient; yarn guide parts need to be smooth, winding tension should be on the low and stable side, to avoid over-drafting and yarn breakage; linen has weaker resilience than pure wool, so drafting must be controlled. Before machine knitting, knit a small sample to confirm density, shrinkage and hand feel.

Washing & Finishing Steps

  1. 1Sorting and lot matching: Sort by style number, color number and dye lot difference, wash same batch and same dye lot together; wool-linen blends have relatively large dye absorption differences, so be sure to avoid color bleeding and color shading.
  2. 2Desizing and stain removal in clean water: Warm water around 30℃ + neutral detergent, gently remove floating hair, oil stains and sizing; never use strong alkali or chlorine bleach, to prevent wool felting and linen yellowing.
  3. 3Anti-shrink/softening finish: No milling; add hydrophilic softener (silicone-based/fatty acid-based) to improve the linen hand feel, reduce prickliness, and combine with moderate anti-shrink finishing to stabilize dimensions.
  4. 4Dewatering and setting: Low-speed dewatering, strictly no wringing or vigorous rubbing, pre-set the shape while wet, to prevent felting, wrinkling and deformation of the wool-linen fabric.
  5. 5Drying/tumble drying: Low-temperature tumble dry or lay flat to dry in the shade to 80%; avoid high temperature and direct sunlight, to prevent wool yellowing and linen strength loss.
  6. 6Panel pressing: Steam press each garment panel once before sewing, medium temperature, with a pressing cloth, to eliminate wrinkles and stabilize dimensions.
  7. 7Garment pressing: After sewing is completed, steam press the whole garment once on a mannequin to set the shape; control steam and pressing time, to prevent glazing and press marks on the wool-linen.
  8. 8Re-pressing and finishing: Press the easily wrinkled parts such as neckline, placket, hem and cuffs once more, to ensure flatness, crispness and clean lines.
  9. 9Quality inspection and packaging: Inspect dimensions, color shading, pilling, snagging, stains and pressing effect; after passing, bag them, and store with attention to moisture-proofing, insect-proofing and sun-proofing.

Care Instructions

  • Washing: Warm water below 30℃, select "wool/delicate" program or hand wash; use neutral detergent, no bleaching or strong alkali.
  • Drying: After washing, gently press out water (never wring, never spin dry), lay flat to dry in the shade, avoid hanging and stretching out of shape.
  • Ironing: Medium-low temperature, steam iron with a pressing cloth, best done when 70% dry; the natural wrinkles of linen are also part of the style, so full flatness need not be forced.
